Unfortunately, Apple Intelligence isn’t available for all devices that support iOS/iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. But does your iPhone, iPad, or Mac make it to Apple’s list of compatible devices? Let’s find out below.

iPhones That Support Apple Intelligence

Apple severely limits the iPhone models that support the various Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC 2024. Unfortunately, you need an iPhone with at least the A17 Pro chip or newer to use Apple Intelligence. Here are the only models that are eligible as of August 2024:

• iPhone 15 Pro
• iPhone 15 Pro Max

Even the standard iPhone 15 models don’t support Apple Intelligence since they pack the older A16 Bionic chip from the iPhone 14 Pro models.

iPads That Support Apple Intelligence

Unlike iPhones, you don’t need the latest and greatest iPads to use Apple Intelligence when Apple rolls it out in fall 2024. All you need is an iPad with the M1 chip or newer, and you’re good to go. Here’s the complete list:

• iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch with the M1 chip (2021)
• iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch with the M2 chip (2022)
• iPad Pro 11-inch and 13-inch with the M4 chip (2024)
• iPad Air 10.9-inch with the M1 chip (2022)
• iPad Air 11-inch and 13-inch with the M2 chip (2024)

As you can see, if you bought a high-end iPad in the last three years, you don’t have to worry about Apple Intelligence support.

Macs That Support Apple Intelligence

Like iPads, Apple limits Apple Intelligence to Mac models powered by Apple silicon chips (M1 and newer). If you’re unsure, you can quickly check if your Mac has an Intel or Apple silicon chip. Either way, here are all the supported Macs:

• MacBook Air 13-inch (late 2020 and newer)
• MacBook Air 15-inch (all models)
• MacBook Pro 14-inch (all models)
• MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021 and newer)
• Mac mini (late 2020 and newer)
• iMac (2021)
• Mac Studio (2022)
• Mac Pro (2023)

Even though Apple began its transition to Apple silicon chips in 2020, I’m quite surprised that even a 2020 Mac is fully capable of running Apple Intelligence, but an iPhone from 2023 can’t do the same.

If your Apple devices made the above list, know that you don’t have to wait for Apple to roll out Apple Intelligence to the general public in fall 2024. You can try Apple Intelligence right now by installing the iOS/iPadOS 18.1 or macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta.

However, note that not all Apple Intelligence features are available, and since these software builds are in their early experimental stages, you may encounter bugs and other issues more often than you’d like.
